MOTORCYCLE ENDURANCE RIDING CERTIFICATION
(MERC) STANDARDS

Wild Pelicans focus on four basic endurance rides in addition to our other club priorities.  This club is dedicated to developing long distance endurance riding skills.  Wild Pelicans develop endurance riding skills using the "Wild Pelican MERC Ladder."

We have great pride on our ability to ride long distances safely and in all weather conditions.  We also take great pride in educating and assisting other riders through the four levels of long distance endurance riding.

_____

The Wild Pelicans MERC Ladder:

Bronze Level:  500+ miles in 12 hours or less.

Silver Level:  1,000+ miles in 24 hrs or less.

Gold Level:  1,500+ miles in 24 hrs or less.

Platinum Level:  2,000+ miles in 48 hrs or less.

_____

All Wild Pelicans seek certification at these levels as a matter of pride and sense of accomplishment.  Any rider wishing to gain a Wild Pelican MERC will insure the following is accomplished and sent to Wild Pelicans on all rides to preserve integrity of our certification process and to allow for thorough certifications.

Once decided on a ride and route, riders must prepare and comply with the following:

1.  WITNESSES:

Obtain and list the name of a starting and ending witness, provide complete information as to name, address, phone number and/or email address so that cross-verification may be accomplished if needed.

Wild Pelican Patch Holders may act as witnesses for team rides.

2.  KEEP A RIDE LOG:

There are several formats.  Just click and print any of the following links, fill it out and use it for our verification process:

A ride "stop log" will be kept with a receipt from each stop.  This receipt can be a printer generated gas receipt or written gas receipt from each stop.  A start and ending ride receipt must be obtained; ATM receipts may be used.

A stop log entry must be made at least every 300 miles, or at any time the endurance run stops for 15 minutes or more (such as unplanned stops, rest stops, or stops where no gas is obtained).

3.  MAINTAIN ALL RECEIPTS!

Send in copies of all receipts from gas stops or ATMS as appropriate.

4.  CREATE A MAP OF YOUR ROUTE:

Send a map (a photocopy is fine) with your MERC route highlighted and legible.

5.  SEND INFORMATION FOR CERTIFICATION:

Use one of the ride logs found in Section 2 above.  Email details of the route, copies of receipts, map, basic route and objectives, witness information to the email address below.  Keep kb size small as possible.  This can be done via email using attachments for all information as scanners can be used.
